Fals (Bronze, 23 mm, 3.98 g, 11 h), without mint, possibly struck in Dvin (Armenia), without date, possibly AH 547-AD 555 / 1153-1160. 'Izz al-Din' (in Arabic) within inner circle. Rev. Large cross in circle; in outer margin, pellets. Album 1890A. Zeno-30762. Extremely rare. Repatinated and with heavy traces of overstriking, otherwise, about very fine.


This type may have been minted at Dvin in Armenia, which was under Salduqid control circa 1153-1160. This theory is supported by the appearance of a cross on the reverse, bearing a striking resemblance to the famous medieval Armenian cross, which is often shown on so-called khachkars, memorial steles.
